GANGOTRI YATRA

Along the right bank of Bhagirathi stands the shrine of Gangotri dedicated to the Goddess. Perched at a height of 3048 mts., it was constructed in the early 18th century by a Gorkha Commander, Amar Singh Thapa. Every year, lakhs of pilgrims throng the sacred temple between May and October. By November, Gangotri is covered by snow. It is believed that the Goddess retreats to Mukhba, her winter abode (12 kms downstream). The physical source of the holy river is at Gaumukh, 18 kms. Further uphill, along the Gangotri Glacier. Several pilgrims trek upto the source to offer prayers either on foot or on ponies. According to mythology, Goddess Ganga - the daughter of heaven, manifested herself in the form of a river to absolve the sins of King Bhagirath predecessors, following his severe penance of several centuries. Lord Shiva received into his matted locks to minimize the immense impact of her fall. She came to be called Bhagirathi at her legendary source

Climate:-

The daily average temperature for the whole year is 9 degree C, the average maximum temperature 14 degree C and average minimum temperature is 4 degree, Summer (March to May) is very pleasant with observed maximum never crossing 20 degree C and cold at night. Winter (December to February) is freezing cold with heavy snowfall. Heavy rains in monsoon season (late July - August) make it difficult to reach the temple. The famous attraction, the Shivalinga is submerged in Gangotri, during summer and visible when winter comes. The temple is typical open from last week of April to second week of November. Summers (March to June) are very pleasant with moderate climate, with average around 18 degree C. Summers is ideal for all sight seeing and pilgrimage. Monsoons (July to October) are accompanied with scanty rains and also temperature drops down to 15 degree C. Winters (November to February) are chilly days with average minimum touching near 5 degree C. Minimum can touch sub zero levels and snow falling seen very often during winters. Best Seasson:-

The best time to visit Gangotri is between May-June and September-November. Due to heavy rainfall in the area, visitors may face difficulty reaching the temple during monsoon season (late June to Aug). The temple usually remains open from last week of April to 2nd week of November. Area: 3 sq. km.   • Delhi - Haridwar

    Morning drive to haridwar / Rishikesh. On arrival check in at hotel. in the afternoon temple tour of Haridwar/Rishikesh. Overnight stay at hotel.
    Rishikesh :-, located in the laps of lower Himalayas, and is surrounded by scenic beauty of the hills on three sides with Holy Ganga flowing through it.   • Haridwar - Uttarkashi

    Morning visit Haridwar Local Sight Seeing, later drive to Uttarkashi. On Arr. Uttarkashi, Check in Hotel. Later at evening visit Lord Vishwanth Temple. Back to your hotel, Dinner & Night halt. Uttarkashi: Situated at the bank of river Bhagirathi. The temple of Lord Vishwanath is located here where a massive iron trident is erected. The other important temples situated here are Ekadash Rudra, Bhairav, Gyaneshwar and Goddess Kuteti Devi.

  • Uttarkashi - Gangotri - Uttarkashi

    Early morning, Drive to Gangotri enroute visit Gangnani. Arr. Gangotri, Check in Hotel. Later visit Gangotri Temple.evening back to Uttarkashi,Overnight stay at Hotel.
    Gangnani: Further up on way to Gangotri about 26 Kms from Maneri, is the hot water spring at Gangnani, where one can have refreshing bath in the kund called Rishikund. There is a temple near the kund dedicated to the Sage Parashar, believed to be the father of Ved Vyas. Gangotri Temple: The temple, constructed by the Gorkha General Amar Singh Thapa in the 18th Century, is situated on the right bank of Bhagirathi. Submerged Shivling: Submerged in the river, this natural rock Shivling is the place where, according to mythology Lord Shiva sat when he received the Ganga in his matted lock. It is visible in winter months when water level decreases. ,

    Uttarkashi - haridwar

    Early morning, pilgrims after Darshan of Gangotri Temple. Drive straight to Rishikesh/Haridar. Check in Hotel. At evening visit Gang Aarti at Hari Ki pauri. Overnight stay at Hotel.

  • Haridwar - Delhi

    Morning drive to Delhi.inrout visit Rishkesh then drive to Delhi drop you at the Airport / Railway station for onwards destination.
